Gianluca Rocchi has hit back at Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti for suggesting VARs officiated Serie A games rather than the referees themselves.
Ancelotti cut a frustrated figure at the recent VAR meeting in Rome as it came just weeks after Napoli drew 2-2 with Atalanta, despite the technology not being consulted over a blatant penalty call.

Ancelotti cut a frustrated figure at the recent VAR meeting in Rome as it came just weeks after Napoli drew 2-2 with Atalanta, despite the technology not being consulted over a blatant penalty call.
However, Rocchi responded via Radio Radio: “Being a referee is one of the hardest things in the world, I can say that and I’ll stress it again.
“I think I can represent the opinion of any referee at our level. VAR is a fabulous tool, it’s made our lives easier and calmer for certain reasons.
“It’s clear, as with all things, we can improve and do better, but I can assure you that it’s a fabulous tool.
“The referee officiates, always and, in any case, unquestionably. VAR gives you important and sometimes crucial support, but the final decision always likes with the referee.”
