Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben insists Roma are still a top side – despite yesterday’s 7-1 humbling.

The Dutchman bagged two goals in the first half against Rudi Garcia’s men, and admits he never expected a result of this magnitude.

“I’ve never really experienced anything like this,” Robben considered after the game to UEFA’s official website.

“Especially not against a good team because Roma have a great team.

“They started well [beating CSKA Moscow 5-1 and drawing away to Manchester City], so we expected a very tough game, but we really controlled the game and dominated.

“They had no answer to our attacking football so the game was very quickly decided and after it was 3-0 it got more and more difficult for them.

“They were disappointed, their heads went down and we exploited the space.”

Despite the ease of Bayern’s victory, nothing Robben saw during the game has changed his opinion that Roma are a good team.

“I'm still convinced Roma have a very good team – they've shown that this season – but we should pay a big compliment to ourselves.

“To all the players, but also to the coaching staff who prepared this game in the way we played, the way we created chances and scored goals. There were some great goals [yesterday].”
