World Cup Final referee Nicola Rizzoli welcomes the ‘vanishing spray’ to Serie A, but has an issue with goal-line technology.

On Friday it was officially confirmed that Serie A, B and Lega Pro would all use the vanishing spray system from this season.

It allows referees to set a visible mark so that players cannot encroach during free kicks, then disappears a few seconds later.

“In Brazil the spray can proved to be very useful indeed. When you put down the line, nobody dares to go over it,” Rizzoli told Quotidiano Sportivo.

“I think it can be transferred to our domestic football too.

“The issue of goal-line technology is different, as it too is useful, but incredibly expensive to implement.”
