Former Torino star Ruggiero Rizzitelli believes Pietro Pellegri is ‘similar’ to Italy and West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca.

Pellegri scored his first Serie A goal this season in the Granata’s 2-1 win over Udinese on Sunday.

“Finally he feels well physically and scoring two goals in six days surely boosted his self-confidence,” Rizzitelli told La Gazzetta Dello Sport newspaper.

Pellegri, 21, had also found the net in Torino’s 4-0 win over Cittadella days before the Serie A fixture at the Dacia Arena.

“It’s good for Italian football to have him back. Physically, he is an animal, one who fears nothing, he just needs consistency,” the ex-striker continued.

“He could try to play every game until the World Cup break. I think he is similar to Scamacca for his style and his physical strength.”

Pellegri joined Torino on a temporary deal in January after Milan ended his loan spell at San Siro.

The Granata made his move permanent in the summer for circa €4m.

Regarded as one of the most promising strikers in Italy, Pellegri has been dealing with several injuries since his €20m move from Genoa to Monaco in January 2018.

He scored his first Serie A goal against Roma on May 28, 2017, in Francesco Totti’s final professional match. Pellegri was 16 years and 72 days old and became the third youngest player to find the net in Italy’s top flight.
