Erik Lamela has agreed a €12m transfer to Roma, confirmed River Plate President Daniel Passarella this afternoon.

“It went well, Lamela is practically a Roma player,” declared Passarella as he left a crucial meeting in the Giallorossi offices this afternoon.

The official announcement is expected some time later today, when the paperwork has been deposited with the authorities.

According to the latest reports, Argentine playmaker Lamela has signed a five-year contract worth €1.2m per season.

There was a key meeting today between Passarella, Roma director of sport Walter Sabatini, River Plate lawyer Daniel Crespo and Lamela's father.

“It's done, we are only missing the signature on the contract,” Crespo told journalists.

River Plate had originally not been eager to sell Lamela, but their historic relegation from the Argentine top flight saw the club plunge into financial difficulty.
