Radja Nainggolan could reportedly be fielded at right-back when Roma take on CSKA Moscow in the Champions League tonight.
With Maicon still Vasilis Torosidis still unavailable as they recover from injury lay-offs, Coach Rudi Garcia hinted yesterday that Roma could employ a surprise at right-back, and the Gazzetta dello Sport believes that surprise will be Nainggolan.
The newspaper believes that the Belgian will take up the role on the right of a back four, in Roma’s familiar 4-3-3 system, with Kostas Manolas and Davide Astori occupying the central roles and Francesco Totti leading the line.
However, Corriere dello Sport expects the Giallorossi to switch to a 4-4-2 shape for the crucial clash in Moscow.
The sports daily asserts that Alessandro Florenzi will play at right-back, with Nainggolan instead occupying his more familiar central midfield role, at the base of a midfield diamond.
That would leave Miralem Pjanic playing at the tip of the diamond, supporting Totti and Gervinho up front.
Il Messaggero meanwhile, is running with another completely different line-up. The newspaper believes that Nainggolan will indeed play right-back in a 4-3-3 system, but that a place will still be found for Florenzi as the Italian would be asked to fulfil the left-winger role.
Probable Roma team to face CSKA Moscow: De Sanctis; Nainggolan, Manolas, Astori, Holebas; Keita, De Rossi, Pjanic; Florenzi, Totti, Gervinho
