The first Champions League encounter at the Giuseppe Meazza ended with a 2-0 win for the Nerazzurri, but Riedle has a feeling that the home side will be lifted by their own fans at the Signal Iduna Park tonight.

“We need to see what shape the fans are in,” said Riedle to Gazzetta dello Sport. “It will be a different game from San Siro.”

Lautaro Martinez and Antonio Candreva grabbed the goals in the first leg against the German giants and put Inter ahead of Dortmund in Group F, both on four points.

The former striker insists Dortmund need to match the result when Inter come knocking and feels the game will be decisive for who advances to the knockout stages of the tournament.

“[Lucien] Favre needs to win at least 2-0, that won’t be easy. If they can’t, for me, they are more or less out,” added the 54-year-old. “If the stadium will be how I expect it to be, it will be a complicated evening for Inter.”

He says they were psychologically “stilted” in the first leg, as they lacked a centre-forward in the team and played without an out-an-out striker in Milan.

“Dortmund didn’t have forwards, the performance was stilted, also from a mental point of view. Inter didn’t do much to win,” he added. “It actually surprised me to see a team defend like that at home. Now Borussia have pulled through a bad spell and have a lot of confidence. I’m expecting an open match.

“The three at the back in Milan was represented by the lack of players. The match didn’t go well, this time they will be back in their normal formation.

“Borussia are used to playing against a defensive unit, Favre’s lads are masters in this area. Inter will be the same. Conte sets up his formations in the same manner as always. He did it with Chelsea and with Italy.”
