Tottenham striker Richarlison blames Antonio Conte for his lack of playing time and reveals he was told he would have started against Milan if he had passed a fitness test.

Spurs have been knocked out of the Champions League Round of 16 by Serie A giants Milan following a 0-0 draw in North London on Wednesday night.

The defending Serie A champions had beaten the Premier League side 1-0 at San Siro on February 14.

Brazilian striker Richarlison, who was introduced in the second half against the Rossoneri, blamed Italian coach Conte after the final whistle.

“I was playing well, we won against Chelsea and West Ham and suddenly I was on the bench,” he told TNT Sports as quoted by the BBC.

“I played five minutes against Wolves, asked the reason and no-one told me why. Yesterday, they asked me to take a fitness test in the gym and told me I was going to start today if I passed it.

“And today [yesterday] I was on the bench. There are things I can’t understand. There was no explanation again, let’s see what he [Conte] will tell us tomorrow – but I’m not silly, I’m a professional who works hard every day and I want to play.”

The Italian tactician is under pressure having been eliminated from every domestic cup as well as the Champions League.

Spurs are currently in the Premier League top four with 45 points in 26 matches, but Liverpool are just three behind with a game in hand.

Conte’s contract in North London expires at the end of the season but the coach is not expected to remain at the club beyond the summer.
