Manchester City defender Micah Richards is reportedly travelling to Florence today to complete a move to Fiorentina.

La Viola have been linked with attempts this summer to strengthen their full-back department, with Davide Santon amongst the most prominent players listed in reports.

Indications in recent days were that the Florence outfit were still shopping in the Premier League and that they had earmarked Manchester City’s former England international Richards, for a late summer transfer window bid.

Richards has also been linked with Everton, Sunderland and West Ham, with chances of first team action under Manuel Pellegrini looking slim, but it is La Viola who are expected to complete a move today.

Reports in both the UK and Italy are that the 26-year-old is flying out to Florence this morning to complete formalities on an initial season-long loan deal, which could be made permanent next summer.

Speculation is that Fiorentina are paying City an initial fee of £1m, around €1.2m for the loan.

Should a move for the 26-year-old not materialise, the club are anticipated as following through on interest in Lazio’s Abdoulay Konko, or former Inter man Giulio Donati, now at Bayer Leverkusen.
