Empoli youth product Samuele Ricci admits it is ‘almost a dream to come here and win in this stadium’ after a 1-0 victory over Juventus.

The Tuscans were promoted from Serie B over the summer as title winners and caused a huge shock in Turin with Leonardo Mancuso’s strike.

“This night means so much, it’s almost a dream to come here and win in this stadium. I dedicate the win to my father, as it’s his birthday today, and to all the fans who were here supporting us,” Ricci told DAZN.

“We were solid, compact, suffered under pressure to the end and brought the result home.”

Empoli had also taken the lead against Lazio in Week 1 only to lose 3-1, but this time Juve were unable to recover from the goal.

“Obviously, we played our game and had done well last week too, but the incidents went against us, this time we were able to hold on.”

Ricci was asked if he was targeting a call-up for Italy at the World Cup in 2022.

“I am taking it one game at a time, one objective at a time, and not looking too far ahead.”
