Franck Ribery is ‘in love with Italy and wants to stay in Serie A’ even after Fiorentina refused to renew his contract, said his agent.

The 38-year-old is currently a free agent, as after two years at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, the Viola opted against offering him an extension.

“Ribery had a wonderful experience with Fiorentina, but they made different choices,” agent Davide Lippi told RAI Sport.

“Many clubs are interested in him, but he told me that he wants to stay in Serie A. He’s in love with Italy and our football.”

Ribery made 51 competitive appearances for Fiorentina over the course of two seasons.

He scored five goals and provided 10 assists, but also managed to pick up two red cards.

The World Cup winner would be a coup for any club, having amassed 81 senior caps for France, finding the net 16 times for his country.

The left-sided winger spent 12 years at Bayern Munich, previously representing Boulogne, Olympique Ales, Stade Brest, Galatasaray and Olympique Marseille.

There are suggestions Ribery could be picked up by Roma or even Serie B outfit Parma, who signed Gianluigi Buffon this summer.
