Franck Ribery confirms he ‘wants to stay’ at Fiorentina and extend his contract for another ‘one or two years.’

The France international turned 38 in April and his contract with the Viola is due to expire on June 30.

He has not yet negotiated a new deal, but the arrival of coach Gennaro Gattuso seems to have inspired him to continue at the Stadio Franchi.

“I’d like to stay in Florence,” Ribery told the official Bayern Munich YouTube channel.

“I like Florence a lot, the city, the people, the fans, the language – I like a lot of things. It was brilliant for two years, it was a great experience.

“I hope it will carry on for one or two years. My position is: I want to stay at Fiorentina. You know my mentality: I love to work. I have lots of fun on the pitch and enjoy it as well.

“I feel very good and I’m still fit. That’s good.”

Despite numerous injury concerns, Ribery still managed to contribute two goals and seven assists in 29 Serie A games for Fiorentina this term.

He arrived as a free agent in June 2019 after ending his 12-year spell with Bayern Munich.
