Football Italia understands DHEA, which can raise levels of testosterone, was the real banned substance found in Paul Pogba’s system in a doping test on August 20.

The Juventus midfielder failed a doping test on August 20 following a Serie A game between Juventus and Udinese where he had been an unused substitute.

DHEA, Dehydroepiandrosterone, a banned substance that naturally boosts testosterone production, was found in Pogba’s system, Football Italia can confirm.

Pogba will fight to clear his name and his agent Rafaela Pimenta has reiterated that her client ‘never intended to break the rules.’

Every substance Pogba has used will be tested to determine how it got into his body.

Meantime, the Frenchman and his lawyers are preparing a defence for a sporting trial which could end up with a ban from two to four years.

Pogba’s counter-analysis also came back positive earlier this week but the Frenchman had already been suspended by the Italian Anti-doping Commission after failing the first doping test. Therefore, he can’t train with his teammates and is earning a minimum wage of circa €2.000 per month.
