The 2022-23 Serie A campaign will reportedly begin on August 13-14 with a break from November 13 until the beginning of January to accommodate the 2022 World Cup.

Lega Serie A will officially confirm the dates for the upcoming campaign during the March break, but according to reports in Italy, the new season will begin on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday 14.

It’s at least one week before the usual start of the season, a decision that had to be taken to accommodate the Qatar World Cup from November 21 until December 18.

Serie A will stop from November 13 until the beginning of January and the last game of the season will be played on June 4. According to Calciomercato.com, the decision was taken yesterday during a Lega Serie A meeting.

Italian clubs could feature in a friendly tournament played in the USA during the World Cup. Serie A chief executive Luigi De Siervo confirmed plans for a tournament in America during an interview with Reuters last week.

“We want to keep our players fit while promoting ourselves in a market which we consider strategic,” he said.

“Fixtures would be scheduled to avoid any overlap with the World Cup calendar.”

Italy have yet to book their place for the World Cup. La Nazionale will meet North Macedonia in the play-offs semi-finals on March 24 and could face Turkey or Portugal in the Final.
