Italy international Mateo Retegui was taken ill and spent last night at the hospital after Genoa‘s 1-1 draw against Napoli, but is regularly training with his teammates this morning.

Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports Retegui felt unwell after a Serie A game between Genoa and Napoli at the Stadio Maradona on Saturday, so he was taken to the hospital after the final whistle.

According to Il Secolo XIX, Retegui had a CT scan of the brain, which came back negative, but the Italian striker precautionarily remained in observation status at the San Martino hospital in Genoa for the night.

He is regularly training with his teammates today.

Retegui’s problem was believed to be caused by an accidental clash with Napoli defender Leo Ostigard.

Retegui, 24, joined Genoa from Tigre on a permanent €12m transfer last summer.

He has scored seven goals in 20 appearances across all competitions this season.

Retegui made his senior Italy debut in March 2023 under Roberto Mancini and has scored two goals in four matches with the Azzurri.
