Italy striker Mateo Retegui admits he could leave Tigre in the summer and says he’s in touch with Roberto Mancini following a knee injury.

The Argentine-born striker made his Italy debut during the international break in March, scoring two goals in his first two games with the Azzurri.

He’s now been linked with a move to Serie A, where Napoli, Inter, Juventus and Milan are said to be monitoring him.

Speaking to ESPN Argentina about a potential move to Serie A or any other European league, the 23-year-old said: “Right now, I am super calm, I don’t think about the future. It’s possible that there will be a transfer in the middle of the season, but I have a strong bond with the club, which is the most important thing.”

Retegui is currently on loan from Boca Juniors at Tigre, who will make his move permanent for circa €2m over the coming weeks.

According to Calciomercato.com, Eintracht Frankfurt are strongly interested in the Italy international, who could replace Randal Kolo Muani, who will surely leave the Bundesliga side in the summer. According to the report, Retegui’s asking price is currently in the region of €20m and Inter would lower his price tag by offering Facundo Colidio in a player-plus-cash swap deal. The Argentinean striker is already on loan at Tigre.

Retegui is currently out of action with a knee injury but should recover in time for the Nations League Final Four in June.

“I am ok, it [the knee] is improving. Mancini? We are in touch, now I want to recover and come back stronger.

“I am calm and if I’ll be back [to the Italy squad], I’ll do it with great desire hoping to do my best.”
