Retegui completes Genoa medicals: ‘An honour to be here’

Mateo Retegui has now completed his medicals with Genoa as he prepares to make the move from Tigre.

The 24-year-old striker shot to prominence in Italy after being given a surprise call-up by Roberto Mancini for the Italian national team back in March. He hit the ground running with the Azzurri, scoring two goals in his first two games against England and Malta.

Retegui attracted Mancini’s attention by impressing at Tigre, where he’s scored 35 goals in 70 appearances, making a move to Serie A the obvious next step.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Retegui has now completed his pre-transfer medicals with Genoa, where he’ll move in a deal worth over €15m. He landed in Italy on Monday and is arrival is expected to be officially announced in the coming days.

Welcomed by several fans outside the clinic, the 24-year-old Argentine-Italian striker expressed his excitement at the move, saying: “I’m happy to be here with you, it’s a great opportunity for me. It’s an honour to be here. A hug and see you soon.”
