Mateo Retegui thanks Italy boss Roberto Mancini and says it’s ‘an honour’ to play for Alberto Gilardino at Genoa.

The Italy international has completed a €15m transfer from Tigre and was unveiled at a press conference on Thursday.

“I am happy, I’ve joined a big team with a great coach. Diego Milito told me Genoa are an amazing club with outstanding fans,” he said.

“I had other options, but the coach and the club convinced me to come here. I decided for my family and me.”

What did Gilardino tell him?

“He spoke about football, he is a great coach and he was an excellent player for the national team,” said Retegui.

“It’s an honour to be coached by him and play in Serie A. I hope I can learn a lot from him and the rest of the team.

“I thank Roberto Mancini, who had great words for me, I hope I can learn a lot. I am fit now as I played my last game for Tigre on Thursday.”
