There are reports Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski has rejected a move to Al-Ahli because his wife refused to live in Saudi Arabia, so Gabri Veiga is no longer a primary target.

The deal had been imminent with the Saudi Pro League expected to pay circa €30m to sign the Poland international.

His current contract only runs to the end of the season and it would’ve been a huge profit, especially considering Napoli signed him from Udinese for €16m in the summer of 2016.

However, according to Mediaset’s Napoli correspondent Raffaele Auriemma, Zielinski suddenly pulled the plug on the entire deal because his wife refused to make the move to Saudi Arabia.

She insisted that quality of life for their family was more important than the millions in wages he would’ve received.

That does not necessarily mean Zielinski will stay at Napoli, as a reunion with his old coach Maurizio Sarri at Lazio is also an option.

Meanwhile, missing out on the Zielinski money has a knock-on effect, as Napoli now cannot raise their bid for Celta Vigo midfielder Veiga.
