Milan is increasingly likely to be the next destination for Nicolò Zaniolo, with reports he prefers them to Tottenham Hotspur and that Roma also like their offer more, but are still not satisfied.

The Italy international has made it clear he wants to leave in January and with a contract running down in June 2024, the previous €50m asking price has plummeted.

According to both Sportitalia and Sky Sport Italia, Milan have made their proposal to Zaniolo’s entourage and to Roma, offering a paid six-month loan for €2-3m with option to buy for a total €25m including bonuses.

It would become an obligation to buy if Milan qualified for the Champions League at the end of this season.

That is considered a better offer than the Tottenham one, which is tied only to appearances for the team.

Tuttomercatoweb insist that is still not enough to satisfy Roma, who want a permanent sale and hope to get €35-40m, but if they leave the situation until the last year of his contract, that will be practically impossible to get.

Another element emerging this evening is that Zaniolo would much prefer to remain in Serie A and sign for Milan rather than go to Tottenham and the Premier League, especially if Antonio Conte’s future at Spurs is anything but certain.

Curiously, Tottenham and Milan are due to cross paths in the Champions League Round of 16 next month, so Zaniolo could make his debut for either of those clubs.
