According to reports in Italy, Tottenham Hotspur had targeted Udinese forward Gerard Deulofeu before turning their attention towards Arnaut Danjuma of Villarreal.

Multiple sources are now confident that a deal has been done to sign Danjuma on loan for the next six months and he is due to have a medical over the next 24 hours.

However, he was not their first choice or even the second, as there was also an attempt to pick up Nicolò Zaniolo from Roma.

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Spurs had initially tried to sign Deulofeu on loan from Udinese, but were rebuffed by the Serie A side.

Udinese are determined to keep hold of Deulofeu for the rest of this season and if they were to let him go in January, it would only be on a permanent transfer.

It would’ve been a return to England for Deulofeu, as the 28-year-old already played for Everton and Watford in his career.

He is under contract with Udinese until June 2024 and is having a very strong season, with three goals and seven assists in 18 appearances between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
