Reports in Argentina insist Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal worth €50m plus €5m in bonuses for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero.

According to TyCSports and TNT Sports, the two clubs have now settled on the transfer fee and are in ‘total agreement.’

It comes after Sportitalia reported Spurs were raising their bid to €50m.

The Argentine sites claim there’s another €5m in bonuses on there, which will take the total close enough to the €60m asking price.

Romero has already given the all-clear to join the Premier League side and will now work out personal terms.

‘Cuti’ is still on vacation and won’t join up with the Atalanta squad for training until Monday, as he was part of the Argentina team that won the Copa America.

His contract with Spurs is expected to run until June 2026.

Barcelona had also been interested, but could not compete financially with Tottenham at this moment in time, trying to negotiate a loan with option to buy.

Atalanta signed Romero from Juventus, on a two-year loan at €2m with €16m option to buy.

Naturally, they can activate that early and then sell him for a massive profit, tripling their money.

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini insisted today that there was no truth in reports they would need to bring in a replacement, as they already secured Matteo Lovato from Hellas Verona.
