There are reports in France and Italy that Marcus Thuram has decided to join Inter rather than Milan after a last-minute interception.

The player is a free agent after his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach was allowed to run down.

He already rejected the approach from Paris Saint-Germain, so seemed to be heading towards the Rossoneri.

However, Sportitalia reported on Thursday evening that Inter were diving in with their own offer and it was far more than just an attempt to get in the way of their city rivals.

That proved correct, because Footmercato first and then Sky Sport Italia announced tonight that Thuram had made his decision, plumping for Inter.

It should not be too surprising, as Inter had first been close to his signature in the January transfer window, only for it to be delayed by an injury.

This is a blow for Milan, who are already facing an angry response from their fans after agreeing Sandro Tonali’s sale to Newcastle United.

It is also just the start of the transfer battles between the clubs, as Inter also remain the favourites rather than Milan for Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi.
