There are reports in Italy that Udinese have struck a surprise deal for Florian Thauvin, who is expected to have his medical on Monday.

The Friulani needed reinforcements after Gerard Deulofeu was forced to undergo another knee operation, meaning he will be out of action for several months.

According to Sky Sport Italia and Tuttomercatoweb, they went in for Thauvin and quickly managed to agree personal terms.

The 30-year-old France international is a free agent after his experience with Mexican side Tigres concluded earlier this month.

He spent most of his career in Europe with Bastia, LOSC, Olympique Marseille and Newcastle United, before heading to Mexico in the summer of 2021.

There were also links with Olympiacos Pireo, but it would seem as if Udinese have managed to convince him.

Thauvin was close to joining a Serie A club several times in the past, including Milan, Roma and Napoli, but Udinese appear to have finally got his signature.
