Reports in Italy and Argentina suggest Tottenham Hotspur have raised their offer to €50m plus €5m in bonuses for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero.
Both Sportitalia reporter Gianluigi Longari and TyC Sports pundit Cesar Luis Merlo claim the same figures have been put forward by Spurs director Fabio Paratici.
The asking price was €55m, so a deal should to all intents and purposes be on the way for the Argentina international.
Romero already agreed personal terms with Tottenham for a contract to June 2026.
Sportitalia insist Barcelona are still in the running, but due to their well-known financial problems, cannot right now offer more than a loan with obligation to buy.
TyC Sports suggest Atalanta are now just trying to find a suitable replacement before sending Romero to London.
He has not yet started pre-season training, because he was part of Argentina’s team that won the Copa America, beating Brazil in the Final.
Although La Dea have a double deal with Gremio for Matheus Fernandes and Ruan, the defender should remain on loan in Brazil until 2022.
The first choice to replace Romero remains Merih Demiral of Juventus.
#Romero 🇦🇷 Totally confirmed. #Tottenham submitted an offer to #Atalanta (50M + 5M). #Spurs still confident to reach an agreement and talks are on and never collapsed #THFC. #Barcelona still waiting for increase their first offer submitted on Wednesday. Will be a loan+obl https://t.co/pMBLYcJYB7
