Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries is open to the possibility of renewing his contract with Inter, despite plenty of reports linking him with a move away from San Siro this summer.

According to Friday’s reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Dumfries is not entirely sold on the idea of a move away from Inter for a number of reasons and could negotiate with the club in the months before the end of the 2023-24 season.

Gazzetta claim that the player’s entourage have been in contact with representatives from the club again in recent weeks on the topic of a contract extension.

Dumfries reportedly has concerns as to whether he would be able to find another club at the top of their respective league, and with high hopes in the Champions League, who would be willing to play and pay him any more than Inter do currently.

The Dutch international’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season, in the summer of 2025. With that in mind, Inter had been prepared to move him on to another club this summer to avoid losing him for free the following year.

The Nerazzurri also brought in Tajon Buchanan for a reported fee of €12m in the January transfer window, their only signing that month. He was expected to be the long-term heir to Dumfries in Simone Inzaghi’s right-wing back position.

Plenty of teams in the Premier League have been linked with a move for Dumfries in the press in both Italy and England, especially Manchester United and Aston Villa as well in recent weeks.

  1. I hope that Inter and Dumfries can work out a good deal for both parties. Dumfries has gotten better the last few years under the Italian coaching. When on his game he can be one of the most feared wing backs in world football! As soon as he came on the field against Atletico Madrid the game was turned on it’s head. Dumfries has tremendous speed!
