With Roma freezing out Nicolò Zaniolo, there are suggestions in Italy that Leeds United could make an offer for the frustrated Italy international.

The situation has reached breaking point, with Zaniolo leaving the Eternal City for his family home in La Spezia to wait and hope for a miracle before the transfer deadline.

He has made it clear he no longer wants to represent Roma and his behaviour, rejecting a €30m plus bonuses move to Bournemouth, made that feeling mutual.

It is reported today that Roma have permanently frozen Zaniolo out and he will spend the next six months in the stands if he will not accept a suitable offer.

Milan are still only prepared to take him on loan with option to buy, which is not acceptable to the Giallorossi.

Now transfer pundit Nicolò Schira and Calciomercato.com suggest that Leeds United have opened negotiations with Roma for Zaniolo as well.

They might have more success than Bournemouth for several reasons, including the presence of Italy international Willy Gnonto in the squad.

Leeds are also higher up the standings that Bournemouth and making far more of an impact in the Premier League.

It comes just hours after they signed Weston McKennie from Juventus, on loan with option to buy.
