There are reports that Juventus turned down an offer from Chelsea in January to exchange N’Golo Kante for defender Matthijs de Ligt.

According to CBS Sports, Tuttomercatoweb and Calciomercato.com, the proposal was made by the Premier League side in the January transfer window.

Kante would’ve been a valuable addition to the Bianconeri midfield, but they turned down the chance to sign the France international.

De Ligt did eventually leave Juventus in the summer, making the transfer to Bayern Munich instead for €67m cash plus up to €10m in add-ons.

Kante’s future remains in the balance, as his contract with Chelsea only runs to June 2023 and he has made only two appearances for the Stamford Bridge side this season.

He was purchased from Leicester City in 2016 for €35.8m, having won the Premier League title with Claudio Ranieri.

Max Allegri has particularly struggled with the midfield this season, using teenagers including Fabio Miretti to fill the gaps.

  1. A smart competent club would have made the deal or asked for an additional player plus cash. This guy has a lithium battery and is good at both ends of the field. PhD Max would have been interested in the defensive part only, but seeing that he can bomb forward and build up play was a no go for the legend of bunker basement retreat calcio. Perhaps Kante himself did not fancy the switch as he saw the 7/9 up close and personal. No point swapping a club that is in transition for one that has hit an ice berg.

  2. dont believe this, im subscribed to fabrizio romano – hes been on chelsea/ man utd transfer like a hawk – nothing from him

  3. Wow this further highlights our managements sheer incompetence. I certainly believe this. Chelsea was all over us this summer for him too. Incredible.
