New Napoli coach Antonio Conte was impressed by the performances put out by Milan outcast Alexis Saelemaekers during his loan spell with Bologna in 2023-24, and is reportedly interested in bringing him to the Stadio Maradona for the new Serie A campaign, according to Sunday’s updates.

Conte and Napoli interest in Saelemaekers

The 25-year-old Belgian joined Milan in the summer of 2020, but found himself on the fringes of Stefano Pioli’s squad by the start of the 2023-24 campaign. He was then sent out on loan to Bologna, where he scored four goals from 30 appearances in the league.

Bologna had considered making Saelemaekers’s move permanent at the end of the 2023-24 season, but decided to re-evaluate their options after the departure of Thiago Motta and subsequent appointment of Vincenzo Italiano.

Now that Saelemaekers is back at base in Milan, TMW report that Conte and Napoli are interested in bringing the player in as a low-cost ‘wildcard’ for the new Serie A season.

The Anderlecht academy graduate is not short of options this summer, as recent reports have linked Premier League side Leicester City with a move, as well as Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta.
