There are reports this evening that Chelsea have made contact with Paulo Dybala’s agent and could activate the €12m release clause in his Roma contract.

La Joya moved to the Stadio Olimpico last summer as a free agent when his deal with Juventus was allowed to run down.

He signed a contract to June 2025, but it included a specific release clause at just €12m that is only valid for clubs outside of Italy.

According to Portuguese transfer expert Pedro Almeida, that has caught the eye of Chelsea, who have made an approach to Dybala’s agent to request information.

Roma can remove the clause – which stands at €20m for Serie A teams – by increasing his salary to €6m per season.

The 29-year-old made 38 competitive appearances for Roma, scoring 18 goals and providing eight assists, so it was his most prolific campaign since 2017-18 at Juventus.

He also helped the Giallorossi reach the Europa League Final, where they lost on penalties to Sevilla, but had numerous injury problems too.
