Paulo Dybala will leave Juventus as a free agent, but reports in Spain suggest Barcelona coach Xavi considers him to be ‘over-rated.’

The Argentina international has not been offered a new contract in Turin, so will be a free agent on July 1.

He has been linked with numerous clubs, including Inter, Napoli, PSG, Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

However, El Nacional newspaper and La Gazzetta dello Sport insist Barca are not going to be an option for La Joya, because even as a free agent, coach Xavi is not interested in picking him up.

The Catalan media maintain the tactician sees Dybala as ‘over-rated and not functional’ to his style of football at Camp Nou.

Barcelona already brought in Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the January transfer window to bolster their attacking options.

So far this season, Dybala has contributed 13 goals and six assists for Juventus in 29 competitive games, but as usual, his campaign has also been affected by recurring injury problems.

  1. He peaked 5 years ago. The problem was that when he did, we all thought that was his momentum. Good player but loses his head when paired with a quality striker. It’s a shame but Barca are right.

  2. Maybe Xavi should wait to talk about serial champions like Dybala until he is out of the Europa League. I’ll take his opinion more seriously then.

  3. Dybala is only 28 years old.
In the right form and at the right challenge, he can still return to his best.
Be it at Barca or some other big club.
    We’ll see in the summer..

  4. “Good player but loses his head when paired with a quality striker”.

What is that supposed to mean??? @Fino

  5. He isn’t wrong, nowadays he’s just a bag of high wages, injuries and a couple of goals here and there

  6. @Lynchy It means that when he was the main striker, he was OK. As soon as someone comes in who’s the main talking point (e.g. Higuain, Ronaldo, Vlahovic), he retreats into their shadow and underperforms. Just look at his scoring stats as soon as Ronaldo arrived…just crazy low. This suggests he’s psychologically fragile and so he won’t lead the team from the top.

  7. @Milanista82 We’ve been thinking that for 9 years…he’s about to make a big break. But all that happens is that he gets injured or disappears for long spells during games. I really like Dybala but the time has come to cut loose and make space for younger talents with the right psychological make up.

  8. @Fino He played some of his best football with Higuain and was linking up well with Vlahovic in the games they’ve played.

The fact is he was shifted further from goal in order to serve Cristiano. Unfortunately for him.

Under Allegri Juve always struggle to play well without Dybala.

  9. @Fino alla fine, I mostly agree but context is important.
The best Dybala we’ve seen was in his first 2 seasons, 2015-2017, especially in 2017 when Juve reached the CL final.
Juve lost against a great Madrid team and everybody seems to blame Dybala for not delivering on the big events, which I think was unfair.
When Ronaldo came to Juve, Allegri prioritized him over Dybala, which is a reasonable decision, and with the usual defensive duties Allegri requires, Dybala couldn’t perform well.
When Sarri came, he was able to make them co-exist, and Dybala had a very good season in my opinion.
Pirlo came last season and Dybala was mostly injured.
This season too, he was injured, but when he played he always made a difference, especially when others like Chiesa were around him.

    The question for Juve was:
Would you bet on Dybala for another season (and a new contract obviously) ?
Or would you go out and buy someone like Zaniolo ?

To be honest, I’d have gone with Dybala.

  10. @Vlahovic – says the fan of the team who got knocked out by Villarreal, FC Porto, Lyon and Ajax in recent years – all Europa league level teams 😀

And the only reason your team was in the CL to begin with us the Cuadrado dive vs Inter to begin with.

  11. @andy, did your serie A team did any better than us in UCL in the last decade ? Definitely no

Dybala is great but never been 10m p/a great, but Zaniolo is not the solution, he is even worse

  12. @Andy Might be a silly question but if those teams are Europa level, why were they playing in the CL???

  13. Ajax has double the amount of titles and FC Porto as many as Juve in the CL, but all these are minor teams in the champions league compared to AC Milan. Would be nice with a Dybala on a free this summer and for Juve to overpay for some mediocre replacement.

  14. Dybala won player of the season two years ago.. Just saying..
His problem is being injured for most of the time. Quality is not in doubt.

  15. He can find some calmness, and put himself together after his move. Obviously, his contract negotiations over last 2 or 3 years didn’t do any good either. He is a great player but I agree too that he is overrated. All and all look how Juve fans treating him, I can’t believe this. At least he was one of your above average players!

  16. The problem is not the replacement, mediocre or not, expensive or inexpensive, the problem is Juve’s mentality as they always seem to collapse in the CL. Those are just indisputable facts. My heart is not rotten, it’s red! Forza Milan!

  17. Milanwizz – Milan is not winning the UCL anytime soon. And even if you win the scudetto this year, you’ll still only have one star on your shirt. We got our second in 1982!!

  18. Don’t rule out Milan in the champions league, it’s in the Milan’s DNA. No doubt Serie A has been owned by Juve, also in the most unfortunate circumstances. However, when comparing home and abroad, quite clearly the stats at home are quite inflated. Milan will have their second star soon enough and maybe even a third before Juve, who knows.

  19. @Milanloserwizz, must be painful to watch Ronaldo and Vlahovic in Juve while you are forced to watch garbage such as Saelemakers in your team.

Anyway Forza Milan! Forza 4th place in CL group stage! Pathetic… 🤣🤣🤣

  20. @I Miss Juve… This ‘average’ team cleaned up for 9 years straight. What does that say about your team??

  21. Dybala was always treated incredibly well by Juve and the fans. He was gifted the number 10 and he wore it with pride. The problem is that he’s now too injury prone and he’s asking for a bumper payrise. That’s just bad business. Just like when a certain team paid all the recovery costs for an injured Brazilian Ronaldo, only for him to recover and then immediately leave. How we all laughed that season!
