Toro managed only three wins in their last 17 competitive matches, along with eight draws and five losses.

The element that most upset President Urbano Cairo and the local media was the apparent lack of an identity in the team, who seemed lost once top scorer Andrea Belotti sustained a knee injury.

It is believed the move to fire Mihajlovic was made so that the new Coach, whoever it may be, can use the January transfer window to rebuild his squad.

Saturday’s Serie A meeting with Bologna is also the last game until January 21, as Serie A is going on its Winter break.

Mihajlovic had been on the Torino bench since the summer of 2016, having previously been fired by Milan in April that year.

His other management jobs were at Bologna, Catania, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and at the helm of the Serbia national team.

Sky Sport Italia claim that former Napoli, Inter and Watford Coach Mazzarri is an early contender to take over.
