Shakhtar Donetsk coach Roberto De Zerbi and his Italian staff have reportedly left Kyiv by train, but are still in Ukraine.
The former Sassuolo and Benevento boss had been given two opportunities to leave when Russia first attacked, but insisted on staying behind until he was sure his foreign players were safe.
This was confirmed to the New York Times by Shakhtar player Junior Moraes.
Italy’s football federation chief Gabriele Gravina said last night that he was in constant contact with De Zerbi and working to find a path out of Ukraine.
According to Sky Sport Italia, De Zerbi and his Italian members of staff have now left Kyiv, are on a train and should hopefully make it to the border by dawn.
De Zerbi had taken the Shakhtar Donetsk job in Ukraine after impressing at Sassuolo, given the opportunity to play in the Champions League this season against Inter and Real Madrid.
The season was only suspended last week when it became clear Russia were going to invade the country.
