Recent reports suggest that Roma could attempt to hijack Atletico Madrid’s agreement with Girona for striker Artem Dovbyk, although the Giallorossi face an uphill battle in pulling the deal off.

The Ukrainian centre-forward registered 32 goal involvements from 36 LaLiga appearances last term, including 24 goals and eight assists, as well as two further assists from 72 minutes of action in the Copa del Rey.

The 27-year-old has a release clause in his contract, reported to be worth €40m, although Atletico Madrid have come to an alternative agreement with Girona.

Atleti’s arrangement with Girona involved an upfront offer of €32m, plus around €6m-€7m in additional bonuses to be paid at a later date, which brings the offer close to the original €40m asking price, according to transfer expert Matteo Moretto.

Roma plan to disrupt Atletico agreement for Dovbyk

However, reports in Spain suggest that there is a team in Serie A who plan to disrupt the Dovbyk agreement, and Sky Sport Italia and Gianluca Di Marzio claim that that club is Roma.

Di Marzio adds that Roma plan to get a better understanding of the possibility of signing Dovbyk in the coming days.

The Giallorossi are in need of new striking options after bidding farewell to 2023-24 loanee Romelu Lukaku, who remains linked with a move from Chelsea to Napoli.

Roma have also been linked with a move for Villarreal forward Alexander Sorloth, but they are yet to reach an agreement with the Yellow Submarine for the former RB Leipzig man.
