According to the latest reports, Chris Smalling has played his last game for Roma, as negotiations with Manchester United definitively broke down.

There was already only a slender hope of getting the deal done, but yesterday’s final push to boost their offer failed again.

Manchester United want over €20m for the centre-back who turns 31 in November, after Roma paid €3m for the one-season loan.

Sky Sport Italia now state this morning an increased offer was also rejected.

Roma are even ready to give up negotiations to extend the loan for the Europa League campaign and are sending him back to base without playing the Round of 16 clash with Sevilla.

Smalling made 37 competitive appearances for Roma between Serie A, the Europa League and Coppa Italia, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
