Walter Mazzarri’s nightmare evening at the Stadio Olimpico continued after Napoli lost 2-0 to Roma, as it’s reported he was left behind by the team bus and had to travel home by taxi.

It was far from a good way to prepare for Christmas, as his team was beaten 2-0 by goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Romelu Lukaku, after red cards for Matteo Politano and Victor Osimhen.

Mazzarri was understandably in a foul mood during the post-match interviews and press conference, but the situation got even worse.

According to Repubblica newspaper, the coach took so long over his media duties that the team bus left without him for the return to Naples.

It meant Mazzarri had to get a taxi to drive him all the way from Rome to Naples in the middle of the night.

There is going to be a very short Christmas break, as Napoli are back in action at the Stadio Maradona on Friday December 29 against Monza.

The reigning champions sit in seventh place, already four adrift of Bologna in fourth place.
