And according to the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, the forward must now compensate his former team, even after moving from Lille to Milan on a €23m transfer from the Ligue 1 club.
The newspaper points to a statement released by the Primeira Liga side claiming that the player “did not have valid reasons for terminating the contract at the time”.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) has, according to the report in O Jogo, asked Leao to repay his old club, after initially rejecting Sporting’s first request of economic compensation.
Leao has scored twice in Serie A this campaign, after appearing 21 times for the Rossoneri, and is currently tied to a contract until June 2024.
