Roma are reportedly on the verge of signing a five-year contract with Marash Kumbulla from Hellas Verona and won’t give up on reaching an agreement with Manchester United over Chris Smalling.

Sky Sport Italia reveals Kumbulla has come to terms with the Giallorossi and is expected to sign a deal until June 2025, moving from Verona on loan with an obligation to buy.

Reports in Italian media suggested La Lupa had therefore given up on bringing the former England international Smalling back to the Italian capital.

The 20-year-old Albania international has played 28 competitive games for the Gialloblu and will move on a permanent deal to Roma for a reported total of €30m next summer.

But despite Kumbulla’s seemingly imminent arrival, Roma are still confident they can reach an agreement with the Red Devils over Smalling, who spent last year on loan at the Olimpico.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the Giallorossi are still in talks with United.
