Juventus have reportedly passed up the chance to sign Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, freeing him up for Real Madrid.

According to Calciomercato.com, Kepa had been watched by Juve scouts for some time and was offered to the club last summer.

However, the website notes the 23-year-old has “never been a priority” for the Bianconeri, given he would cost €25m, despite his contract expiring next summer, their desire to avoid a bidding war with Madrid and faith in Wojciech Szczesny.

However, the website notes the 23-year-old has “never been a priority” for the Bianconeri, given he would cost €25m, despite his contract expiring next summer, their desire to avoid a bidding war with Madrid and faith in Wojciech Szczesny.

Consequently, the Basque appears set to join Los Blancos in January, with Calciomercato explaining he will sign a six-year contract, worth €3.5m a season plus bonuses.

Kepa broke into Athletic’s first team last season and is regarded as Spain’s future No 2, having helped their Under 21s reach the European U21 Championship Final earlier in the year.
