It is widely reported that Gian Piero Gasperini is in advanced talks for a return to Genoa, replacing Fabio Liverani.

After a 2-0 home defeat to Napoli, the Grifone confirmed this as their worst start to a Serie A season since 1983-84.

Liverani is in his debut senior professional management role, having worked only for two years at the Genoa youth academy.

It’s rumoured President Enrico Preziosi had a dinner meeting with Gasperini this evening straight after the game.

Some reports even suggest contact had begun yesterday, before the result against Napoli was known.

It would be a return for Gasperini, who has already been at the helm of Genoa from 2006 to 2010.

Despite impressive results and entertaining football, Gasp was sacked in November 2010. He took over at Inter in June 2011, lasting only four Serie A rounds.

The Coach then had a chaotic spell at Palermo, arriving on September 16 2012, was fired on February 4 2013, recalled on February 24 and then terminated his contract by mutual consent on March 11.
