A Mediaset journalist claims Gennaro Gattuso threatened to resign after Milan’s defeat to Verona yesterday.

The Rossoneri were thrashed 3-0 by the relegation strugglers, and the squad was placed into ‘ritiro’ today, essentially a punishment training camp.

However, Mediaset’s Guglielmo Mastroianni claims that the Coach was so incensed with the relaxed nature of his players after the game, he actually went to Casa Milan to resign.

CEO Marco Fassone convinced him to reconsider, and together they decided instead to impose the ritiro.

It must be stressed that Mastroianni is currently the only source reporting that Gattuso wanted to resign, with most sources stating that Gattuso was always at the club’s HQ to discuss a ritiro.

Indeed, the club's community manager Pasquale Campopiano has tweeted that Rino "never thought of resigning".
