Another setback against Milan last weekend continued a dire form against the top sides under Fonseca, with only three wins in 21 games against the top teams, including the Coppa Italia.
Against Inter, Milan, Juventus, Atalanta, Napoli and Lazio this term, Roma have scored nine goals and conceded 22, and the report claims the fragility against the big teams could lead to the Portuguese coach’s farewell this summer.
Fonseca has a clause in his contract that will automatically extend his stay at the Olimpico should Roma qualify for the Champions League, but the newspaper claims patron Friedkin is already looking for a new coach.
The American owners want to invest in the team to make it more competitive, with Max Allegri and Maurizio Sarri mentioned as possible successors.
Roma and Allegri spoke in September, according to the outlet, and the Tuscan coach has given his willingness to take over at Trigoria.
But Sarri is another candidate, waiting to understand how he will terminate his contract with Juventus.
The former Napoli coach could ‘cost less’ than Allegri for the Giallorossi and the report claims he wants the job.
