Marco Giampaolo will reportedly meet with Sampdoria patron Massimo Ferrero in the next couple of days.

Il Secolo XIX reports the Blucerchiati patron has targeted a return for Giampaolo, who left the club in June 2019.

The 53-year-old was appointed Milan coach the same summer, but only lasted seven games in charge of the Rossoneri, before he was replaced by Stefano Pioli in October.

He was then given a chance to revive himself with Torino in August 2020, where he was replaced by Davide Nicola after 20 games with the Granata.

The report claims Ferrero wants to bring the former Empoli coach back to Liguria, where he spent three successful years and has put Giampaolo at the top of his wish list.

Roberto D’Aversa, who left Parma after the relegation to Serie B, is another candidate for the job, but Il Secolo XIX claims Giampaolo is ready to accept a return.

Ferrero and Giampaolo will meet in the next couple of days, according to the newspaper, and the idea of a return to the Marassi intrigues him.

But the report stresses that Giampaolo will only accept a return to Sampdoria if there’s a precise, shared and realistic project.

The economic details remains to be discussed, but the former coach knows the environment at Samp and has an advantage over D’Aversa for now.
