Former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso turned down the Watford job before they hired Nigel Pearson, it’s reported in Italy.
The Premier League side is owned by the Pozzo family, who also run Serie A outfit Udinese.
According to Calciomercato.com, Watford representatives met with Cambiasso in Milan last week to discuss the possibility of taking the job after Quique Sanchez Flores was sacked.
Cambiasso is qualified with his coaching badges and was assistant manager to Colombia’s Jose Pekerman at the 2018 World Cup.
