Mario Balotelli reportedly refused to terminate his contract by mutual consent, prompting Brescia to send a letter informing him he’d been fired.

It was hoped the situation could be resolved amicably, but the breakdown in communication was so extreme that this very short experience is coming to an ugly end.

Balotelli failed to attend several training sessions over the last week, claiming on Instagram that he was ‘sick’, but the club insisted he had not given them any warning, let alone a doctor’s note.

Balotelli failed to attend several training sessions over the last week, claiming on Instagram that he was ‘sick’, but the club insisted he had not given them any warning, let alone a doctor’s note.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Brescia asked Balotelli to terminate the contract early by mutual consent, but the player refused.

He is due to be out of contract soon anyway, because President Massimo Cellino confirmed there is a clause releasing the player if Brescia are relegated into Serie B.

Nonetheless, the situation has become so tense that Brescia reportedly sent out a legal letter informing Balotelli he has been sacked.

“He had a lot to give, but had to do more, much more,” coach Diego Lopez told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

“He trained alone because his teammates chose to follow another path. He didn’t even show up on Zoom during the quarantine.”
