Calciomercato.com reports Diego Simeone has targeted Milik as Diego Costa’s replacement at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Costa’s contract with the Colchoneros was officially terminated today and the Argentine coach has started looking for his replacement.

The outlet claims Atletico Madrid has been in touch with Milik’s representatives and are pushing for a deal to materialise in January.

Simeone wants to have the Poland international available for the second part of the campaign, but Napoli continue to ask for €15m for his services.

Sporting director Andrea Berta feels it’s too much, as Milik’s contract with the Partenopei expires in June 2021, but the economic issues between the player and Napoli patron Aurelio De Laurentiis makes the discussions complicated.

The dialogue between the parties goes on and Milik is reportedly enthusiastic and flattered by the interest from Atletico.

Milik was not registered for Serie A this term and the 26-year-old has been training separately since the summer market shut.

The centre-forward has, however, played four games for Poland since the start of 2020-21 and captained his nation in a 2-0 friendly win over Ukraine.
