According to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, Inter had approached Carlo Ancelotti to replace Antonio Conte, but he couldn’t ‘betray’ Milan.

The coach had been at Everton since December 2020, just days after he was sacked by Napoli, and signed a new contract with Real Madrid this week.

However, there had been another offer on the table before that, as Spanish paper Diario AS maintains Inter had asked Ancelotti to take over from Conte.

This would’ve meant joining the arch-rivals of a Milan side that he represented as both a player and a coach.

“If I became what I am today, I owe it to the Milan fans. I cannot betray them,” was reportedly his response to the Nerazzurri.
