Ligue 1 side Rennes are reportedly warming up to the idea of sending right-back Lorenz Assignon to Roma on loan with a mandatory buy clause included in the contracts, according to recent updates.
Roma and Rennes exploring buy-clause options for Assignon
The Giallorossi have landed on Assignon in their hunt for a new right-back before the close of the transfer window, but Daniele De Rossi’s side had originally offered a loan deal with an option to buy, which did not satisfy their French counterparts.
Rennes are adamant that they will only let Assignon leave on a permanent deal this summer, and so they turned down Roma’s initial offer, which included an optional buy clause.
According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, the two clubs are now discussing the possibility of a loan with a mandatory buy option linked to a minimum number of first-team appearances.
That seems like a compromise, but Roma still need to formalise their next offer before a deal can progress.
