Bruno Genesio is ‘confident’ that Rennes will complete a deal for Fenerbahce defender Kim Min-jae soon, beating Napoli to the punch.

The Partenopei are rapidly looking to strengthen their defence as Kalidou Koulibaly completes a move to Chelsea, leaving Luciano Spalletti’s backline significantly weakened. The Campania side have had their eye on a number of targets including Fenerbahce’s Kim, and now they seem set to miss out.

Speaking via Calciomercato.com, Genesio commented on the status of Rennes’ negotiations with Fenerbahce for Kim.

“I’m confident, we’re waiting for him. The negotiations are going quite well, but until it’s made official we have to be very careful.”

The 25-year-old Kim joined Fenerbahce last summer from Chinese side BJ Guoan in a deal worth around €3m. He immediately impressed in Turkey and became a consistent starter, making 30 Super Lig appearances in total. His market value has shot up to around €14m and he seems ready for the jump to a top five league.

Napoli will now have to focus on other targets as the upcoming season rapidly approaches, with one possible idea being Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi.
