Ahead of Lazio’s clash with Juventus, Edy Reja admits he “laughed” at the idea of Antonio Conte’s 4-2-4 system.

The Bianconeri tactician raised many eyebrows when his revolutionary approach was suggested over the summer.

“I really laughed when people talked about Juventus and the 4-2-4,” revealed Reja.

“I wish that were the case, but it’s tough to support four men on the attack giving reference points to your opponents.

“We will be facing a side that attacks with three men, plus two midfielders who are very good at slotting in, especially Claudio Marchisio.

“It is going to be a great game on Saturday night and a new one, as I’ve never faced Conte before.

“He is doing very well and has brought character to Juventus, which nobody had been able to do in recent years. He can also count on quality players like Stephan Lichtsteiner and Mirko Vucinic.”

Lazio and Juve are joint top of the table, so Reja has become a fan favourite just weeks after he offered his resignation in protest at insults from the supporters.

“I would like to open up a new era here, just as I did at Napoli, where we earned great victories against top clubs thanks to extraordinary performances. I hope to repeat all of that in Rome, as it would be wonderful.”

Miroslav Klose is still at risk for Saturday’s game after a muscular injury, while Andre Dias is likely to miss out with a calf problem.
